The Set-up Behind the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships

Have you ever wondered what it takes to turn an empty arena into wrestling paradise? We documented our journey from Resilite in Northumberland, PA, to the host of the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, PPG Paints Arena, in Pittsburgh, PA.

The 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships were held on March 21, 22, and 23 in Pittsburgh, PA, at PPG Paints Arena. Conveniently located three-and-a-half hours from Resilite (213 miles), travel to and from the host city made logistics a bit easier than years past.

The trucks were loaded with all the mats, carpet corners, mat cleaners and disinfectant, mat tape, and more early on Monday morning and left shortly after being loaded. The trucks then made the three-and-a-half hour drive to Pittsburgh. Upon arrival, the Resilite team helped unload the truck and coordinated the set-up of the mats on the arena floor.

In addition to the eight mats on the floor, several other LiteWeight Mats were placed throughout the arena, behind-the-scenes, to serve as warm-up areas for the athletes.

By 5:00PM Monday, the arena floor, complete with all eight traditional, two-sided Classic Mats, were taped, cleaned, and ready for the first team activities on Tuesday.

In addition to the set-up at PPG Paints Arena for the Wrestling Championships, Resilite also supplied mats for the NCAA Fan Fest area that was located at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, only a few short blocks from PPG Paints Arena. At Fan Fest, there was several activities for fans to enjoy after the early wrestling session; including, USA Wrestling Practice, autograph sessions by wrestling greats, a memorabilia show, and exhibitor gallery.

Resilite supplied the three full-size 42' x 42' RLW-758 LiteWeight Mats for the USA Wrestling Practice area as well as their own exhibitor area display booth.

ShotSledAs an added bonus, Resilite partnered with ShotSled for a special demonstration of training with ShotSled - the one-of-a-kind, patent-pending, training tool specifically designed for wrestling and combat sport athletes to work on powerful penetration, takedowns, and explosions.

Set-up between both PPG Paints Arena and NCAA Fan Fest were completed by Wednesday, in time for all events to take place Thursday through Saturday night.

Resilite is proud to be the official mat supplier to the NCAA National Championships since 1963.
